Acoustics

Our specialist partners in this area

Sound in the Oceans can have major implications for all marine operations, especially the impact on marine Life.  Our Acoustic systems are used widly for passive acoustic monitoring, compliance, etc

Ocean Sonics

Ocean Sonics was formed out of Instrument Concepts in the spring of 2012, to concentrate on the design and manufacture of Smart Hydrophones. With growing interest in the health of the oceans, and in using the oceans to produce energy, the need to understand and measure human effects on the ocean is rising.

icListen HF

The flagship icListen HF is recognized as the new standard in broadband digital marine acoustics. Use it to stream data, log data, or both. Hear what others can’t with the deep ocean 200 kHz acoustic processor. Its wide bandwidth and sensitivity ensure low-level sounds get noticed. Noise cancellation software means easy-to-read displays with calibrated outputs in engineering units.

icListen SC2

The icListen Smart Hydrophones are the industry’s most sensitive broadband digital hydrophone. This compact, all-in-one instrument processes data while streaming HD acoustic data in real time. Use icListen as a digital hydrophone, acoustic recorder or both simultaneously.

icListen SC2-X2

icListen Smart Hydrophone engineered specifically for marine construction and pile driving, explosives. Make SEL measurements quickly and easily with the SC2-X2. Use Lucy Software and Launch Box to display data in real-time and ensure regulatory compliance.

icListen RB9

The icListen Smart Hydrophones are the industry’s most sensitive broadband digital hydrophone. This compact, all-in-one instrument processes data while streaming HD acoustic data in real time.

icListen SC35, SC60

The icListen Smart Hydrophones are the industry’s most sensitive broadband digital hydrophone. This compact, all-in-one instrument processes data while streaming HD acoustic data in real time. Available in 900m, 3500m and 6000m variants.

icListen SA91 SA (L)

The icListen SA and SA(L) models are designed for low-frequency sound data collection. The SA(L) comes with all the features of the icListen HF, including spectral processing, event detection, PPS synchronization, and the powerful Web Server available on the Ethernet interface Play deep-ocean sounds from icListen AF through your PC speakers using the Lucy software, in real-time.

icListen SA35L

The icListen SA and SA(L) models are designed for low-frequency sound data collection. The SA(L) comes with all the features of the icListen HF, including spectral processing, event detection, PPS synchronization, and the powerful Web Server available on the Ethernet interface Play deep-ocean sounds from icListen AF through your PC speakers using the Lucy software, in real-time.

icListen SA35

The icListen SA and SA(L) models are designed for low-frequency sound data collection. The SA(L) comes with all the features of the icListen HF, including spectral processing, event detection, PPS synchronization, and the powerful Web Server available on the Ethernet interface Play deep-ocean sounds from icListen AF through your PC speakers using the Lucy software, in real-time.

icListen Kayak

NEW: The soon to be released “KAYAK” has the same impressive specification as the well established icListen HF but without internal battery and data logger which makes it smaller, lighter and more power efficient. The KAYAK also includes a next generation processor and can be powered from USB.

Lucy acoustic analysis software

Gather real-time acoustic data from icListen LF or HF on a PC & view in a waterfall display. View waveform and waterfall at the same time. Gather real-time acoustic data from icListen on a PC running LUCY software.

Launch Box

Make your Smart Hydrophone completely wireless with Launch Box. Provide two days of additional power to your hydrophone, send data via wifi directly to your personal computer, tablet or smartphone. Ensure accuracy with built-in GPS time sync. Simplify your data collection with this water-resistant, buoyant deck box. Launch Box was created to ensure your sound data collection is as simple, effective and reliable as possible.

icTalk smart projector

Use the icTalk to produce a series of tones, sweeps, pauses, or a combination of all three. Use it stand-alone, as a beacon, or connected via cable to a PC. The icTalk HF ranges from 20 kHz to 200 kHz. Output is flat at 140 dB re μPa at 1m.

Float collar

Easier to deploy than a tripod, just insert the icListen Smart Hydrophone into the Float Collar and lower it over the side of a dock or boat. A small 10kg anchor is enough to hold it in place in the correct orientation. If it’s bumped, it will move away and slowly return to its resting position. Our float collar is designed to be quiet, preventing the collection of undesired ocean sound. Depth rated for 1500m and 3500m.

Subsea tripod

Create a static, autonomous array with the Ocean Sonics Subsea Tripod. The tripod can easily accommodate 4 hydrophones with perfect 1-metre separation. Include a battery pack for 1-3 month autonomous deployments, or cable your tripod array to shore for real-time listening.

Tow fish

The Tow Fish is a towed underwater depressor designed in collaboration with Boston Engineering. Tow Fish allows users tow one or many hydrophones at a constant depth behind a vessel while shielding the hydrophone sensing element, reducing flow noise.

Ethernet repeater

Extend the reach of the extension cable with an Ethernet repeater. The repeater can extend subsea Ethernet to a maximum of 400m by connecting 100m extension cables together Other ways to synchronize them is to connect them to a PPS from a GPS, or the IEEE 1588 Precision Timing Protocol PPS output. This lets you create arrays that are spread over a large area, or difficult to connect by cable.

GPS Time Sync

Ocean Sonics offers a Sync GPS Master which allows the icListen to be synchronize by receiving a GPS pulse per second (PPS). The system is very low power, small and can be mounted on a mast above water or on shore. Typical PPS can synchronize the seconds to a resolution of nanoseconds.

icListen large battery pack

Thanks to its smart design and extensive testing, the Ocean Sonics battery pack is easy and safe to use, making it the perfect tool for powering a wide range of ocean instruments. Powered by field changeable D size batteries, these battery packs are compatible with either lithium or alkaline batteries.
