Planet Ocean deliver another wave radar to Fugro

Planet Ocean Ltd is pleased to announce the delivery of the latest RADAC WaveGuide Onboard, radar wave sensor for installation on selected Fugro vessels

Planet Ocean handed over the most recent RADAC system to Mr Alistair Stagg of Fugro at Oceanology International 2018 at London Excel.  Planet Ocean have signed a framework agreement with global geo-intelligence provider Fugro to provide WaveGuide Onboard systems to their vessels.  The handover saw the fourth system to be delivered under the agreement.

A modified WaveGuide radar wave sensor is installed on the bow of the ship. The sensor uses radar to measure distance to the water surface.  A motion sensor is incorporated into the radar unit to compensate for the vertical motions of the radar itself and so it measures the waves the ship is actually experiencing.  Thereafter Fugro can also derive freeboard / air gap and draft parameters.

Mr Michael Quinnell, Manager of the Offshore Systems department of Fugro commented “The data provided are used both onshore and offshore in a number of ways but providing unambiguous wave measurements for assessment of operational safety limits is key for Fugro.  Other uses include aiding the deployment and recovery of ROV and AUV technology as well as providing useful survey data without the need to deploy wave measuring buoys.”

RADAC WaveGuide sensors are maintenance free, easy to install, low power and available in explosion proof certified versions for use in hazardous environments.
